Armchair Harvest
Titus Vineyards
TRAVEL - September 16, 2009
Harvest is nigh. Like grapes plump with juice, vineyards are brimming with energy and bustling with farmhands and onlookers. But back to school and back to work means the rest of the country is frantic too. The gang at Titus Vineyards has an interesting solution. They'll invite wine enjoyers everywhere to join the celebration of their 20th harvest, virtually.
Through a "Live Harvest" webcast, viewers can peer into the sweaty, gritty, real world of getting grape juice from vine to barrel, all from the comfort of an armchair at home. Pour some wine onto your hands and let it dry, if you want to add the tactile to the visual experience. Better yet, have some wine and let the Titans toil. Through a chat room, viewers can even ask questions and get real time answers from workers as well as the Titus brothers - winemaker Phillip and vineyard manager Eric.
This is the second year Titus has presented a real harvest, live, raw and uncut. Whatever happens, good, bad or ugly, will be seen as if you were there. Remember, these folks are winemakers not Hollywood moguls. The mobile, interactive webcasts will occur twice daily, during the week of October 5th through 9th, at 10:00 a.m. and again at 3:00 p.m. (PST). The Minute 00:60 will be at Titus on the 7th and we applaud their efforts at this daunting technological feat.
