Sideways to Heaven
Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe
January 13, 2009
Santa Barbara wine country is all about wine and ranching. In the hit movie, Sideways, wine and romance flowed at a jumping spot in the little stagecoach town of Los Olivos.
Visit the scene with a dinner at Los Olivos Wine Merchant and Cafe. Eat inside by the fireplace or outside on the wisteria-covered front porch. This casual but sophisticated eatery features California-Mediterranean cuisine. Food choices vary from fresh salads and rustic pizzas to more formal fare such as roasted Portobello in puff pastry or grilled Kobe beef hangar steak. We liked the lower-priced petite portions of pastas and house specialties. Use them to make room for yummy desserts. The Irish Stout gingerbread was worth the calories.
Because the establishment is a wine shop as well as a restaurant, bottles are displayed in open bins along the full length of the building, making for an easy selection among an outstanding collection of Santa Barbara and Central Coast wines. We brought home our evening's choice.
