Berry by Berry

Jill Davis believes that a good winemaker is a shepherd of grapes. Indeed, tending grapes is an important part of her job at Lambert Bridge Winery, tucked into an idyllic corner of Dry Creek Valley just west of Healdsburg.
Grapes from low yielding vineyards must pass through a rigorous "single berry" sort. The lucky ones travel free of MOG (material other than grapes) into stainless steel fermentation tanks. From there they are crafted into small lot artisanal Bordeaux blends and varietals. Sampling them at the winery is a special event any time of the year, whether before a crackling fire in Winter or in the shade of an umbrella on its exquisitely manicured gardens in Spring, Summer or Fall. Try accepting the standing invitation to picnic on these grounds, say with great eats from the Oakville Grocery on nearby Healdsburg square.
Lambert Bridge sells about 9,000 cases a year primarily at the winery and through its wine club. This means that creative special events are hallmarks at Lambert Bridge. High on that list are cooking classes around two, massive wood-fired ovens from the alfresco kitchen on the grounds.
Select restaurants and wine bars in eight states currently carry Lambert Bridge wines. They can be found through an interactive map on its website. The easy-to-use site contains a host of wine related facts, recipes and useful links.
