If you know of entrepreneur Pat Kuleto's distinguished reputation for restaurant design and creation, then you would no doubt have high expectations for visiting the Napa Valley vineyard and winery estate that he also calls home. For the man who won 1999 Bon Appetit's Food and Entertaining Award for Best Designer, the 761-acre Kuleto Estate may be his most prodigious yet least-known work. If restrained grandeur is your preference, the editors of the Minute 00:60 think it is among Napa Valley's most distinctive and exceptional wineries fitting that description.

Located about 8 ½ miles east of the Silverado trail, the property offers dramatic views of Lake Hennessey and Pritchard Hill as well as distant glimpses of the towns of Rutherford and St. Helena. If you're not at the top of Napa Valley, it sure looks and feels that way. More than just vineyards, views and vistas, there are extensive orchards, gardens, and a working ranch complete with sheep, fowl, and cattle; some of whom you may meet on the tour.

We suggest you make a booking for the afternoon tour and tasting. We first sampled select wines paired with artisan cheeses. Then we toured the property, learning about the vision, devotion, and care that went into the development of the estate. We were struck by the uniqueness of Pat Kuleto's office. It was designed around a California oak tree! Depending on the day, you might get to walk the grounds of Kuleto's Tuscan-style home, Villa Cucina, which is likely to inspire you for your own home, if not make you a bit envious. We suggest you leave time after the tasting and tour to relax in one of the many different viewing areas overlooking the grounds and Lake Brunello.
